House of Mercy Holistic Development Organization (HMHDO) formerly known as House of Mercy Ethiopia (HOME) is an indigenous, non-governmental, non-profit, secular, legally registered Ethiopian resident charity under number 0818. HMHDO is working to reducing the vulnerability of children with intellectual disability, Orphan and Vulnerable Children (OVC) and their guardians through age appropriate need based and sustainable. Since April 1999 to March 2018 the organization has been served the community as an international organization. After March 2018 HMHDO re-registered as Ethiopian resident charity and is operational in the entire districts of both Yeka and Gullele Sub-cities. HMHDO has 20 years of development experiences. development interventions.

To contribute the Addis Ababa city administration effort of reducing the vulnerability of children with intellectual disability, Orphan and Vulnerable Children (OVC) and their guardians through age appropriate, need based and sustainable development interventions.

Values

Programatic areas

Special need s component is one of HMHDO programmatic area designed to provide age appropriate day care service for children with intellectual disabilities. In the component children with intellectual disability have got different age and disability friendly service such as speech therapy, physiotherapy, life skill, provision of need based appliance and other services.
Nutrition component is another major component of HMHDO intervention. The component intended to provide food and nutrition support for under five children who are exposed to different kinds of problems associated with malnutrition. This component serves the target children by reducing their vulnerability for malnutrition and food shortage as well as prevent different kinds of physical and mental disability possible happened due to malnutrition and dearth of proper food. Other than the food support parent/ guardians acquired viable skill on how to feed their children and give proper care and protection for their children.

This component designed to support Orphan and Vulnerable Children(OVC) through age appropriate education, health, nutrition and psychosocial support. The support contributed to reduce school dropout, absentee’s rate and enhance academic performances of target highly vulnerable children.

Income generating activity is viable strategy to enhance the resilience capacity of destitute target groups. With this in view HMHDO designed the component so as to reduce the economic vulnerability of   marginalized women’s and young mothers through engaging them in viable and friendly business venture.

In addition, HMHDO works with & supports Health facilities, Schools, ECD, Youth centers and other government structures. It also indirectly benefits the whole community in its operational areas. Currently HMHDO is operating in Addis Ababa over the entire district of Gullele and Yeka sub-cities.
